About Us
The Secular Order of the Servants of Mary sponsors and supports Child Jesus School, Petit-Goâve, Haiti. There are 325 children enrolled in the school (Grades 1 - 9). Through the generosity of some Secular Order communities, Secular Servites, and individual donors we are able to provide the students with an education and provide them with a possibility of a future full of hope.
All donations received are employed exclusively for the needs of Child Jesus School, its students, teachers, and staff. The faculty and staff are committed to providing the children with a safe environment in which they can learn new ideas and skills and develop personally and intellectually as God’s children.
The children are served a snack at the beginning of each school day and fed a meal before returning home from school. For most, this is their main meal for the day.
An important element of the formation of the children is to prepare them for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, although the reception of the Sacraments takes place in the local parish: Our Lady of the Assumption, Petit-Goâve.
Realizing the importance of the home and family environment in the proper education and growth of the children, meetings are conducted on a regular basis with the parents to assure their interest and participation in the school and in their children’s education. Fr. Marc Claudy Magloire, a priest of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince and the overall Director of Child Jesus School, provides the input sessions for the meetings with the parents. The school personnel consists of a Principal, 2 Assistant Principals, 6 full-time teachers, 4 part-time teachers, and 6 support staff. For Grades 7-9, individual teachers are hired to teach a particular required subject matter.
The Secular Servites & individual donors help to provide the funds to provide meals, books, and school supplies for the children as well as to provide a salary for the faculty and staff. There is a local fraternity of the Secular Order: Our Lady of Sorrows & Hope OSSM Fraternity (Fraternité Notre Dâme des Douleurs et de l'Esperance), who is also involved with the school as well as helping to promote the charism and spirituality of the Order of Servants of Mary in their surroundings. Many of the faculty and staff members are Secular Servites.
